About the event

Join Us for a Special Collaboration: A Gathering for Worship at Knox Church

Moana Vā and Knox Church are thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration—a pilot church service that may just become a regular event! We invite you to join us for a Gathering for Worship at Knox, located at the corner of Victoria Street and Bealey Avenue in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Date and Time: Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 3:00 pm

This unique service promises to be a celebration of inclusivity, community, and spiritual connection. Through this partnership, we aim to create a space where everyone feels welcomed and valued, regardless of background or identity.

Meet Matthew Jack: A Rainbow Person and Minister

Allow us to introduce Matthew Jack, the minister of Knox Church Ōtautahi Christchurch. Matthew's journey has been one of self-discovery, advocacy, and unwavering dedication to creating an inclusive environment within the church.

Born in Tāmaki Makaurau in 1963, Matthew pursued studies in philosophy at the University of Auckland before training for ministry within the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand. Ordained in 1993, Matthew served in various parishes before embracing his identity as a rainbow person while ministering at St Stephen's Uniting Church in central Sydney.

Recognizing the importance of authenticity and inclusion, Matthew took a hiatus from traditional ministry roles, exploring teaching opportunities in China and contributing to academia at the University of Otago. However, his calling ultimately led him to Knox Church Ōtautahi Christchurch, where he has served for the past decade.

Matthew's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive parish environment aligns perfectly with the values of Moana Vā. He wholeheartedly supports the work of Moana Vā, Navigators of Pacific Pride, and is eager to contribute his gifts to furthering its mission.

Join us in extending a warm welcome to Matthew and experiencing the spirit of inclusivity and community at our upcoming Gathering for Worship at Knox. We look forward to seeing you there!
